ON THE ICE MELT OF THE HIMALAYAN GLACIERS

[The following letter was sent to us via the "talk" list of the Climate Action Network.]

Dear Colleagues,

you would have seen the recent ICIMOD report on glacial melt in the Hindu Kush-Himalaya region, which indicates that the region's glaciers will melt by one third even if the global temperature rise is limited to 1.5°C.

Our scientists looked a bit deeper into the report and found that things are looking even more dire for the region's LDCs - Afghanistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar and Bangladesh - as the glaciers these countries depend on will recede by 50%.
