Dutch support for fossil industry in 2020 is 4,5 billion

The Dutch government gives annually as much suppustry in 2020 is 4,5 billionort for fossil fuels as for subsidies to cut CO2 emissions. The fossil subsidy has grown in recent years.

According to Eric Wiebes, the Dutch Minister of Economic Affairs and Climate (VVD), in a statement to the Parliament on Monday, the Netherlands will this year provide at least 4.5 billion euros in financial support to the fossil industry.

The Dutch government thereby spends as much each year in support of fossil fuels as it does in its subsidies to lower CO2 emissions. In answer to questions from the Parliament by Green Left [an opposition party] and D66 [part of the governing coalition] Wiebes announced, on the same day, that the annual cost of its climate policy also amounts to 4 to 5 billion euro.
